Lowell Gordy asked for more info since he's not familiar with Black Rock.
He's probably not alone among the folks who joined at BioLaunch events.
Here's the info I gave him in case anyone else wants it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are two small dry lakebeds in the Black Rock Range, which appear
"high and dry" since they're higher in elevation than the main Black Rock
Desert lakebed, so they're nicknamed Upper and Lower High Dry.
We'll be camping on the Upper High Dry Lakebed at 40.989444, -118.964861.
Those are the coordinates where we camped on the Stratofox 2 and 3 trips.
(On Stratofox 4, we camped nearby in "the cove" instead of next to "the
island" on the lakebed.)
The area where I'd like to hike to look for shatter cones is around
41.011576, -118.963737 starting on the west side of the 4x4 trail into
the hills, then maybe later on the east side. Maybe also a bit further
up the trail to where it climbs up to the rock layer boundary where
there are fractured rocks below and breccia (broken/jumbled/re-cemented)
rocks above. We'll be looking for shatter cones in the fractured rocks
just below that boundary. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shatter_cones
for what they look like.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
And something else I should have sent Lowell but he'll see it here...
this is some background on what we found last year.
